that is a parable for our times....

The Sacred Cat
Story by Marie Stuttard
Photographs by Denese Moore

Outwardly this is a story of a Birman cat who makes a journey across a continent to fulfil his destiny as "a sacred cat". Inwardly, this is a parable of triumph over challenge and with profound meaning for our time.

There is a story to the story, too. It all began with Marie Studdard (author of several, books, one of which became a TV series) acquired a new Birman kitten. Her close friend, Denese Moore, a photographer specialising in animal photography, visited her and, in the sponteneity of the visit, photographed the kitten. Later, reviewing the photogrphas, Marie sensed a story emerging around them, witht he result that Denese took more photographs, the story developed further around these, leading to yet a further round of photography. The story then developed over a period of elevent years until fnally taking on a definitive form that was published as "The Sacred Cat".

Even the creation of the book itslef became part of this story, for the text needed to be weaved around the photograhs, while the beauty of both story and graphics called for a book creation to match. The result is a truly ownderful production that is stunning visually and deeply moving to read.
